One of the most rewarding things in life is being able to do what you love and love what you do. Since the month of December, I have been hands on with my patients, providing them mental health services and I can honestly say it has been life changing. I always knew my career was rewarding because knowing I am able to help someone feel less broken every day of my life- helps me get up every day pumped up and ready to work.
As I have already been assigned patients, every day of my life is a new lesson for me. Every single day I hear someone's story. I see individuals battling their mental illness. These individuals cry, laugh, scream, smile, break down, and make progress in my office. These experiences have humbled me in so many ways. As a therapist, my patients constantly thank me for helping them but I always remind them they are the ones I am proud of. This is a journey they decided to start and I am just helping them walk through it. Every day, my patients change my life and I believe they do not get the credit that they deserve.
It has been said therapists are an inspiration, which of course, I agree. However, our patients are a huge inspiration themselves. Every single day, these beautiful human beings get up and fight internal battles. Every single day they are fighting their demons. Every single week they make the effort to attend session. Mind you, a majority of my clients are homeless, yet, somehow they make ends meet to attend therapy to make a positive change in their life. If that isn't inspiring, I don't know what is.
These beautiful individuals are the same ones society has labeled as "crazy, insane, psychos, nobody's" yet, society has got not one clue at how hard they have it and how much effort a lot of them put into making a change in their life.
Dear reader, please be the change and stop the stigma. Spread awareness, do your research, and spread love. If this world were filled with less judgement and more support- we'd be a better place.
By the way, therapy is good for everyone! If you're feeling worthless, hopeless, alone, anxious, or are feeling out of place lately- you can too seek services. There is nothing wrong with a little help and guidance.
Let us end the stigma
Let us to stop pointing fingers and start expanding our hearts, minds, and knowledge.
Be the change. Be fearless. Spread love
xoxo,
Fio.
